Let p be a prime number. We introduce the Greenberg-style Selmer group attached to an Artin motive that has good reduction at p and we show it is torsion over the Iwasawa algebra. We give a conjectural description of a generator of its characteristic ideal in terms of special values of Artin L-functions and a new L-invariant. We also discuss some evidence in favour of our conjectures in the case where the representation comes from (the adjoint of) a classical weight one modular form.
