I will give an overview of the results obtained in our research project with Pierre Colmez and Wieslawa Niziol, aiming at a description of the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the Drinfeld tower for $GL_2 (Q_p)$ in terms of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for this group.
